Wedding Day- Cult Classic: Kinky Curly Curling Custard

With a suitcase full of clothing, I had little space for the shampoo and other hair conditioners. I opted to bring along my leave in conditioner and curl enhancer. I have found these two products to be the best thing to take on the go as my hair always looks more manageable with little effort and time.

Leave in conditioner- Giovanni leave in Conditioner (which will have its own post soon).

Curl enhancer – Kinky Curly Curling Custard

What it does: KCCC gives moisture, curl definition and gives shine. It elongates your curls and defines them and brings out your natural curl pattern.

Ingredients: It is an advanced botanical formula made with ALL NATURAL ingredients that nourish and strengthen the hair. Utilizing the humectants properties of the Agave Nectar, the custard gives weight to your hair, define your curls, remove frizz, provide long lasting hold and shine without ever being greasy, crunchy or drying to your hair.

Review: A little goes a long way and you use it on wet hair. Though you are supposed to comb it through I don’t, for fear of losing my natural curl pattern and having combed my hair in the pre shampoo detangling session I don’t want to further pull more hair out . The product is not cheap but it lasts a long time. It works much better than other products which claim to do the same. To name but a few, Mixed Chicks and Carol’s Daughter Curl enhancers have been disappointing for me. A good friend of mine however loves Mixed Chick (even though I suspect that is because she has not yet tried the KCCC). Again I repeat a little goes a LONG way! The first time I used it I literally bathed my hair in it and it became crunchy. Thankfully the lovely EarthlyColorBrown told me to give it another chance and this time use LESS.

After the KCCC, my hair will look pretty much like this after I take it down from the bun.

After the KCCC, I twist my hair in one large flat twist and pin it. This helps in keeping shrinking at bay. I keep it that way until the end of the day when I take it down and loosen my hair with my fingers and I have perfect curl definition for whatever event I am attending. Off to the wedding.

And just for the hell of it…the wedding pictures.

I couldn’t agree more, Giovanni leave-in conditioner is the nectar of the gods! Definately my favourite leave-in, adds so much moisture and I find it keeps in the hair for days even when I re-wet.
KCCC is also a great product but I have found it shrinks my hair more than anything (since it makes the curl pattern so defined and tight) – so I will try and use your technique of pinning the hair back while wet. Also, it does go crunchy on me – probably because I use too much ;) So thanks for the tips Lydie!
Yes, I agree on Mixed Chicks – terrible product for me. It actually removed curls and created more frizz when I used it but it works wonders for Lauren!
Happy Kinks and curls :) x

I think I love you already!!! The hair pinning is great for keeping your hair moist and stretching it. At the end of th day when I remove it my hair is still past my shoulders. When it dries it goes to chin length. Shrinking does not bother me too much thouh. I love the big hair. xx

How do you sleep with this hairstyle? I’ve tried everything but i always end up with a smooshed mess in the morning then i have to rewet my hair and re-style it.
Any tips on frizz reducing treatments?
